News from Westport Presbyterian

Dear Westport Presbies, family and friends,

Greetings in the love and spirit of Jesus! May you be filled with a spirit of courage, inner tranquility and compassion for others and for yourself in these days of uncertainty in personal and global life. May we pray and act as we are able for world peace—for healing and recovery of the ill—and relief and rescue for all beings living in conditions of danger. As disciples, you are called to become space for God’s grace!

We need socks for our ministry to the homeless! And food items for the lunch bags.

We are installing new elders and deacons this Sunday, Jan. 12: Elders Jim Turner, Stan Morgan and Paul White. Deacons James Capps, Gerry Antes and Roy Fester. Baptism of the Lord Sunday!

Youth Group meets this Friday, January 10 from 6-8 p.m. Hooray!

Check out a new book study in the Contemporary Discipleship Sunday School Class: Amy Jill Levine’s “Short Stories by Jesus”, a look at Jesus’ parables in their original context. Amy Jill Levine is a Jewish professor at a United Church of Christ Seminary in Nashville.

Keep praying for and loving Fred Culver and Rae Peterson after Fred’s emergency hospital stay; Nancy Brockman being treated for cancer and living at Bishop Spencer Place; Steven Thomas preparing for stem cell transplant and Riva Capellari’s whole family in the shocking death of a 4 week old family member, Carly Simon following knee surgery, Drew and Alison expecting a child!

You were very generous with all Christmas giving to a family, a senior citizen and a military veteran, to Cherith Brook, Shepherd Center, and the men and women who come in for the Sunday shower ministry and to the church itself. We praise God!

A surprise of beautiful art awaits all who enter the Fellowship Room. “The Collected Works of Mollie Sweeney” is a professionally hung exhibit of paintings Mollie created during heART and Soul week last summer. “Ocean”, “Happiness”, “Kindness, Forgiveness”, “Tiger”, “Dragon”, “Love Yourself” and others are a joy to experience. Some of have even sold! Smile. Congratulations, Mollie!
