June newsletter

June newsletter

Dear Westport Presbies,
Here are a few updates!

News In and Around the Community:

  • The Deacons are reassembling a very out-of-date Prayer Chain. Please contact Nancy or the church if you wish to be on it. This involves receiving a call when there is a prayer concern and then calling the next person on the list.
  • The Whites are proud to announce the graduation of their son, William.  We are all welcome to join the graduation celebration at their home on June 15 at 1pm (see the church directory or contact the church office for the address)
  • Carly Simon has returned to us at last!  Welcome home, Carly!
  • Marian reports that she has arrived safely at her new home in Oberlin, OH.  She has received warm welcomes and is thankful for very helpful neighbors and a new choir all over the age of 70.
  • Donna Kay Campbell is now living at Morningside Place, a memory care facility in Overland Park.
  • For those of you who have noticed Ruth’s absence at church, her health is deteriorating.  Keep her in your prayers.
  • Deanna is currently away on a well-deserved vacation until June 6.  Diane, thank you so much for filling in at the office during Deanna’s absence!
At the end of June, Deanna will take another week-long vacation to visit her folks.
  • We have new cleaning staff taking over the care of our church, so you may see new faces if you’re around on cleaning nights. It is also with sadness that we bid farewell to our longtime janitor, Chico.  We have greatly valued his contribution to our church and community.
  • That last big storm damaged a couple of things at the church.  As a result, our elevator and one of our air compressors stopped working not long after.  We are not the only ones who experienced problems this week, and the respective maintenance companies will be getting back to us once they have gotten their hands on the new parts we need.  We apologize about them being down just at the moment and are trying to get them fixed as soon as possible.

Upcoming Events:

  • Mondays at 4:30 – FREDitation – a centering prayer experience
  • Wednesday night Zoom Bible Study meets on June5 and June19 at 7pm.  All are welcome; please contact the church for the link
  • June1 – 7PM Historical English dance in the church basement. All are welcome. Come 15 min early for a beginner intro lesson.

Volunteer Opportunities:

  • PRAYER CHAIN: The Deacons are reassembling a very out-of-date Prayer Chain. Please contact Nancy or the church if you wish to be on it. This involves receiving a call when there is a prayer concern and then calling the next person on the list.
  • Bread, Buns, Fruit, Water, Meat, Peanut Butter, Cheese are always needed for our INTERRUPT HUNGER work.
  • WESTPORT SHOWERS happens on Sundays & Thursday nights. Men’s boxer brief underwear needed. Men’s and Women’s shoes, pants, and backpacks
  • WESTPORT SHOWERS is looking for additional volunteers to help with Sunday mornings. With the increase in guests, we would like to have teams of 2 volunteers upstairs working together at the door and 2 downstairs working in the shower/laundry room each Sunday. You would be working with experienced volunteers who can train you in what is needed. If you would like to help, and are willing to volunteer 1 Sunday morning a month, reach out to Drew Irwin or Allison Rozga for more information.
  • WEEKDAY LUNCH VOLUNTEERS. We could use a few more people to help with making weekday lunches. We have an opening on Wednesdays (to make lunches to be given out on Thursdays).

If you have information that should make it into next month’s newsletter, please let Martine know.

Keep the faith…  WPC
