News From Westport Presbyterian

Dear Westport Presbies, family and friends,

Greetings in the spirit of compassion and friendliness that all of us, as Jesus followers, are striving for. I hope this message finds you and your loved ones in a space of grace regardless of whatever physical conditions you might be encountering. We hope for your joy, for sure, yet even our hard paths have something to teach us and prepare us for.

Very soon, on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 7:30 p.m., we will begin our Lenten journey with an ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE, including special prayers, singing, reflections, personal self examination concerning our shortfalls, sins, and things we would like to give up during Lent (our fears?) and imposition of ashes. Join us for this meaningful worship experience.

We thank God for TWO relatively NEW MINISTIRES that are challenging us and inspiring us to serve others and create community in our church and in Westport: The Shower Ministry, (including lots of food and hospitality) which happens every Sunday morning from 8-10 am. More and more of you are joining in. We praise God! And our youth group is gaining strength as well. We especially thank Josh Stark for his commitment to our young people. This Friday night, we are going ice skating at Crown Center. Fun! Attached is a photo from the last youth group night in which we all had an exciting evening of group video games that somehow enabled both experienced players and beginners could have fun together. Super Mario came and visited us!

We prepare a meal for Cherith Brook this Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 5:00 p.m. Come and help out!

We had a fantastic piano concert last Saturday night! Thanks to Emily Davidson for bringing Nicholas Phillips to perform a terrific “Westport Recital Series” concert last Saturday night.
Prayers for Steven Thomas (Marian and Tim Thomas’s son) who now has had his stem cell transplant. Prayers for Danny and Jane Testa (Bobbie Testa’s family), Nancy Brockman (now at Briarcliff care facility, which is great for her), Mike Roush. We express love and sympathy to Nancy Gay and her family in the death of her beloved sister, Sally Hinchman. Pray for Muriel S. Tosh(Linda Smith’s friend, whose niece committed suicide), Christopher and Su Way Campbell (Donna Kay Campbell’s family living in Taiwan, near China’s coronavirus outbreak), Stella Taylor (Paul White’s mother), Fred Culver and Rae Peterson.

This coming Sunday is TRANSFIGURATION SUNDAY. Join us at 10:50 am. Make inner space for God’s grace! Two recent February “Epiphany Season” sermons are now up in Sermons.

FINAL STORY: As I walked out to my car to come to church on a totally frozen Sunday morning two weeks ago, a man was walking up our driveway. He picked up the Sunday newspaper and walked toward me. As he handed me the newspaper, he said, “Do you want to hear a song?” “Sure.” I answered. For the next 2-3 minutes, he sang the most gorgeous, uplifting Aria from Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”. I was thrilled and moved. He then turned and left, saying, “Keep the faith.”

So I say the same to you…….Keep the faith….Rev Scott
