WESTPORT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH WORSHIP SERVICE
SEASON OF PENTECOST
July 27, 2025

PRELUDE: Sonata in A Major Domenico Scarlatti

CALL TO WORSHIP: (from Psalm 85)

One: Show us your steadfast love, O Lord,
and grant us the healing referred to as “salvation.”
All: The Lord speaks peace to the faithful,
to those who turn to God in their hearts.
One: Surely goodness is at hand for those who seek the Lord,
and God’s beauty will radiate in all the earth.

*OPENING HYMN (You may rise in Body or Spirit):
#396 Glory to God Brethren, We Have Met to Worship

UNISON CONFESSION OF OUR NEED OF GOD:

All: Ever faithful God,
we turn away from you, yet you remain constant to us.
We run away, but you call us back.
We dishonor your purposes in speech and action, yet you never stop loving us.
We cut ourselves off from you and others, but you never let us go.
Forgive our fickleness.
Increase our gratitude.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

ASSURANCE OF GOD’S GRACE:

One: Hear the good news!
Buried with Christ in baptism, we are also raised with him
through faith in the power of God.
That same power sets us free to live in gratitude and love.
All: We will continue to live our lives in Christ Jesus:
rooted and built up in love,
and abounding in thanksgiving.

SUNG RESPONSE:
#591 Glory to God Halle, Halle, Hallelujah! (refrain, sing twice)

SHARING THE PEACE OF CHRIST:

One: The peace of Christ be with you.
All: And also with you.
One: Let’s share the peace of Christ with one another.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION:

One: God of Wisdom, you promise to give your Spirit to those who ask.
Send now your Spirit to us, that we might become your friends,
at work in the world to share beauty and goodness.
All: Amen.

SCRIPTURE READINGS: Psalm 138
James 2:1-17

One: May God bless the reading of Holy Scripture.
All: Thanks be to God.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER:

Refrain: God of mercy, hear our prayer.

Our Mother and Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

THE OFFERING OF OURSELVES/INVITATION TO GIVE:

One: As we await the arrival of God’s new realm,
we take up our joyful work as God’s friends,
bringing our tithes and offerings with gratitude.
