WESTPORT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH WORSHIP SERVICE
FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT
CELEBRATION OF HOLY COMMUNION
April 6, 2025

PRELUDE: Be Known to Us in Breaking Bread Daniel Burton
CALL TO WORSHIP: (from Psalm 126)

One: When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion,
All: we were like those who dreamed.
One: Our mouths were filled with laughter,
All: our tongues with songs of joy.
One: It was said among the nations,
All: The Lord has done great things for them.
One: The Lord has done great things for us,
All: and we are filled with joy.

OPENING HYMN (You may rise in Body or Spirit):   #409 Glory to God God Is Here!
UNISON CONFESSION OF OUR NEED OF GOD:

All: Ever-Present God, we confess that we crave familiarity and sameness. We would rather remain as we are than risk making life-altering changes. In this season of Lent, quiet our fears and deepen our thirst for Spirit-sponsored newness. Deepen our dependence on one another, as we cannot do faith without friends. Guide us to reorient our lives towards your goodness and your joy. Renew us, restore us, and remain with us, as you always have.

ASSURANCE OF GOD’S GRACE:

One: The Lord has done great things for us. Through the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ, our divided lives are stitched back together; our fragments are healed into wholeness. Beloved children of God, know that you are forgiven, and be at peace. Amen.
All: Thanks be to God!

SUNG RESPONSE:  #417 Glory to God Lord Jesus, Think on Me (verses 1 & 4)
SHARING THE PEACE OF CHRIST:

One: The peace of Christ be with you.
All: And also with you.
One: Let’s share the peace of Christ with one another.

SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 126  Philippians 3:4b-14
CHORAL ANTHEM: Maya’s Prayer for Peace Tom Trenney
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION:

One: Holy God, just as you spoke at the dawn of creation,
continue to speak to us now as we prepare to encounter your Word.
All: Be with us in our listening, in our speaking,
in our understanding, and in our responding. Amen.

MESSAGE: Cookie Recipes, Golf Tips, and Grace Rev. Jared Witt
SUNG PREPARATION FOR PRAYER:  #471 Glory to God O Lord, Hear My Prayer (verse 1)
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER:

Our Mother and Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

CELEBRATION OF HOLY COMMUNION:
THE OFFERING OF OURSELVES/INVITATION TO GIVE:

One: The Lord has done great things for us. Every good gift comes from God. In response to God’s generosity, we are invited to share a portion of those gifts. However you are able to give, whatever you are called to share, let us continue our worship of God through the giving of our gifts.

OFFERTORY SOLO: Joshua Stark, baritone
PRAYER OF DEDICATION:

One: God of all gifts, we are grateful for the many ways you provide for us. As we offer a portion of these gifts today, we ask that you might receive them. Allow these gifts to become acts of renewal and hope, here in this community and beyond – so that all of your children might live into the abundance and the joy that you offer us.
All: In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
