CALL TO WORSHIP: (from Lamentations 1 and 3)

One: In the midst of war and division,
we wait for God.
All: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
God’s mercies never come to an end.
One: In the midst of devastation and loss,
we wait for God.
All: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
God’s mercies never come to an end.
One: In the midst of change and uncertainty,
we wait for God.
All: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
God’s mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning.
Great is your faithfulness, O God!

*OPENING HYMN (You may rise in Body or Spirit):
#4 Glory to God Holy God, We Praise Your Name (verses 1, 2 & 4)

UNISON CONFESSION OF OUR NEED OF GOD:

All: Almighty God, you call us to lives of service,
but we ignore our neighbors in need right outside our door.
You call us to share our abundance,
but we choose our own comfort over generosity to others.
You call us to build community,
but we are too often gatekeepers,
letting in only the ones that make us comfortable.
Forgive us, Lord.
Help us to be content with enough and inspire us to share what we have –
our prosperity, our power and our love –
until all your children have life and dignity in beloved community.
Lord, hear our prayer. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF GOD’S GRACE:

One: Jesus’ closest friends included those cowardly, faithless, and fickle.
And he stayed with them, and they learned to be his disciples.
So too with us: God’s Spirit poured out makes new lives possible.
You are forgiven for what’s past and called to face the future in hope.
All: Thanks be to God!

SUNG RESPONSE:
#591 Glory to God Halle, Halle, Hallelujah! (refrain, sing twice)

[Kids’ Time Front of Sanctuary]

SHARING THE PEACE OF CHRIST:

One: The peace of Christ be with you.
All: And also with you.
One: Let’s share the peace of Christ with one another.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION:

One: Nurturing God, you give life to all things
and satisfy our desire for healing and wholeness.
Send your Spirit upon us this day,
that in the hearing of your word we may be pulled into more life.
All: Amen.

SCRIPTURE READINGS: 2 Timothy 1:1-14
Romans 8:14-17

One: May God bless the reading of Holy Scripture.
All: Thanks be to God.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
