PRELUDE:  People, Look East (BESANÇON) Paul Taylor
A CALL TO LIVE IN KAIROS TIME

You break into our daily life.
Make hearts humble.
You lay souls bare.
You break in.
When defenses are down.
With an Angel’s shout.
Or the quietest sound.
You break in— and we change.
And all things change.
When you break in.
Kairos time!

HYMN:  People, Look East  (#105 Glory to God)
CONFESSION AND COMMITMENT

We need light.
The days are becoming awfully short.
The chill in the air catches our breath.
The ground is barren and the landscape bleak.
We need light.
Solstice fires and yule logs,
O’ Tannenbaum! Midnight candlelight
All testaments to our felt need.
We need light.
Mary and Joseph and the Baby,
Shepherds awakening!
A rising star to follow!
Stories  bearing witness to our yearning.
We need light.
A light shines in the darkness…
and the darkness did not, will not
has not, cannot
overcome
or comprehend
the light we now need.

PRAYER OF DEDICATION:

Lord, guide us and enable us
to follow in the footsteps
of all the saints who have ever lived
that we too may be found
in those places of danger, division, discord and sorrow
where love is so desperately needed
but often painfully absent.
Let us hear and feel anew
the words of the freedom song
calling us in, to faith commitment
in community with our fellow disciples of Jesus Christ,
saying, “Walk together children! Don’t get weary.”
Let us not be afraid to dedicate our lives, our work, our material things
to the vision of prophets, ancient and contemporary.
Instead let us be joyful.
Let us not be discouraged
Instead, let us be encouraged
to become more free than we have ever been before.
Amen
