The Spirit, The Bond of Love

The Spirit, The Bond of Love

WESTPORT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH WORSHIP SERVICE
SEASON OF PENTECOST
October 12, 2025

PRELUDE:   All Creatures of Our God and King/This Is My Father’s World                  Arr. Gayle Tankersley
CALL TO WORSHIP: (from Psalm 66)

One:         Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth!
All:           We join with all creation, singing to the glory of God’s name.
One:         All of creation forms a choir, singing praise to God.
All:           Sing to the glory of God’s name.
One:         Let us give voice to our encounter with Holy Mystery.

OPENING HYMN    I Believe in God the Father   GTG#481
UNISON CONFESSION OF OUR NEED OF GOD:

All:           Holy God, when we are in need, we cry out for healing. Yet too often, we are confident in our own strength.  We take the blessings that come and continue on our way,  rather than returning to you in grateful praise.  We take for granted the ease of life we often experience, failing to question why others on the margins are excluded. We take pride in our health and strength rather than working to change the world to be more hospitable for all. Help us to grow in compassion for all people. Redirect our paths so that we return to you, the Source of all goodness growing around and in us. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF GOD’S GRACE: (from 2 Timothy)

One:         The saying is sure: If we have died with Christ, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him. We are clothed with the righteousness of Christ. We are forgiven and freed into new ways of living together!
All:           Alleluia. Thanks be to God.

SUNG RESPONSE: Halle, Halle, Hallelujah! (refrain, sing twice)   GTG#591
[Kids’ Time Front of Sanctuary]
SHARING THE PEACE OF CHRIST:

One:         The peace of Christ be with you.
All:           And also with you.
One:         Let’s share the peace of Christ with one another.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION:

One:          God of Wisdom, By the power of your Holy Spirit, open us to receive your Word today. Lead us in wisdom and courage as we seek to follow the way of Jesus.
All:           Amen.

SCRIPTURE READINGS: 2 Timothy 2:8-15           I Corinthians 12:12-14, 21-26

One:         May God bless the reading of Holy Scripture.
All:           Thanks be to God.

Our Mother and Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.     Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.      Give us this day our daily bread;      and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;      and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.      For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

THE OFFERING OF OURSELVES/INVITATION TO GIVE:

One:          Every good gift comes from God. We are invited to respond in gratitude, giving freely and generously, just as we have received.
