Westport Emergency Fund, death in church family, Shower Mini

Dear Westport Presbies, families and friends,

We are saddened by the death of our oldest member, Maxine Lindsey. Maxine died last Friday night at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was 99 years old, and her family was planning a 100th birthday party at church on Memorial Day Sunday. Very sad for adult children–Ann, Ron and Greg. A private graveside service will be held this coming Monday. Later, when it is possible, a memorial service will be held at church.

The Mission Committee is establishing an Emergency Fund for people in our church family who have been laid off, lost jobs or are having to work fewer hours. We have already given away a total of $2,500 in emergency grants to a number of people. We want to be able to help again, and help others who are in need at this time. If you are able to help, send a check to the church office and mark it “Emergency Fund”. Or go to the church’s website: www.westportpresbyterian.org/giving. You can give your regular offerings and pledges in the same way.

We are continuing to Live Stream our worship services. Go online at 11 am Sundays at: facebook.com/westportpresbyterian. We are creating some gathering music at the start to give people time to find the link and get into the FB live stream.

The Sunday shower ministry and weekday lunch bag ministry continues to serve many people who are homeless. We give showers, wash clothes and provide food, along with comfort and support. The Monday night Men’s AA group continues to meet. I am working with Rev Eric Garbison and Nick Pickrell of the Open Table (2nd Pres) and several Presbytery leaders on having an anti-racism audit done of Heartland Presbytery. We are also working with New Worshipping Communities of Presbytery during this time. And through the Westport Center for the Arts, we continue to support artists who are challenged in this time.

Prayers for: Nancy Brockman(home, hospice care), Family of Norman Wardlow(Deanna Wardlow’s father passed), Steven Thomas, Dr. Rebecca Turnbull(Linda Smith’s sister), Paul White’s family in the death of Paul’s mother’s husband), the Tracy family and Provo family(Annie Heitman friends who are stressed by job losses, all first responders, Fred Culver (St. Luke’s Rehab), Allison Jett (Carly’s grand daughter soon will have twins), Alison and Drew Irwin (soon will have a baby) and everyone at Cherith Brook House of Hospitality. I am sure I am missing someone. Please add your prayers during the Sunday Live Stream service.
